Millar Western to curtail operations at Quesnel River Pulp at end of day

Quesnel River Pulp is scheduled to shut down temporarily starting today (Friday), Sept. 4.

In August, Millar Western Forest Productions informed about 90 of its employees in Quesnel that it would curtail operations at the end of the shift.

The company cited market challenges and significant tariffs on Chinese exports as having led to a period of weakened demand, poor pricing, and reduced order volumes as the reasons behind its decision.

It said that the current plan is to resume operations at the start of the day shift on November 1. However, Millar Western added that the curtailment could be extended if market conditions remain unfavourable or worsen.

Millar Western is continuing to fully operate its mills in Alberta — without any layoffs — during this period.
