CNC Quesnel celebrates students’ hard earned milestones

The Cariboo region could be seeing more people join the workforce.

Friends and family celebrated pivotal milestones in their loved ones’ lives, as 41 students crossed the main stage at the College of New Caledonia (CNC) Quesnel Campus’ Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday.

The college awarded 1,259 credentials to the students graduating across all campuses this year.

CNC President, Cindy Heitman, said convocation is always a special event, which, in smaller communities in particular, shows how close-knit the College’s community is for its families.

“The Quesnel convocation in particular is one of those that is really personal,” Heitman said. “It’s small, people are connected, and you can just feel the energy in the room from their [the students’] family and supporters.”

Convocation is a unique and special event, Heitman went on to say. It shows the dedication of many of the students as they go through the challenges they face as students, as well as the challenges that post-secondary education is facing across the country.

“It reminds us how important higher education, post-secondary education, is in communities like Quesnel, and how it changes lives,” said Heitman. “I think to be a part of something so significant for so many people, it’s just rewarding, and it makes all of that hard work so worth it.”

592 graduated from CNC’s  North Cariboo Campus, with 667 graduates from Prince George, Fort St. James, Mackenzie, Burns Lake and Vanderhoof.

Accomplishments and awards were given to students across all four of the College’s academic programs.
