New costs won’t deter Rec Centre Reno

The District of Vanderhoof is still pursuing the renovation of the Integris Rec Centre.

A new report shows costs are about 160 thousand dollars higher than Council budgeted for.

CAO and Director of Community Development Tom Clement says Council was faced with some tough options.

“We looked at removing the daycare, which wasn’t an option we wanted… But to understand what the cost of the daycare was, council took a look at it.”

Council will go forward with the full renovation, but in the meantime, staff will look into new potential sources of funding.

“One is coming from the provincial government through the Ministry of Community Development,” notes Clement. “It’s for daycare spaces, so that would fit really nicely with us. There was another one from the federal government on art spaces, and part of this project is a planned arts wing.”

If all goes well, Clement says the project could break ground at the end of April.
