Province updates online emergency resources ahead of wildfire season

The BC Government has released new tools to help keep people safe during emergencies.

The new tools and resources include the new Emergency Ready Planner, which is an online tool to help people create a personalized emergency and evacuation plan.

“The planner will walk you through each step of household emergency preparedness, making it easier for you and your family to be ready,” said Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness Bowinn Ma.

“This tool will get people thinking about the hazards in their community, what type of home insurance coverage they may need, what to put in an emergency kit and grab and go bag, and outline the steps to take to firesmart their home and much more.”

In addition, the province has upgraded the BC Wildfire Service app and the Drought Information Portal.

“During wildfire season, we want to make sure that British Columbians have access to fast, reliable information when they need it most,” said Minister of Forests Bruce Ralston.

“Starting today, the newly improved app will be available on more devices and will include the most up-to-date wildfire information that will keep people safe and informed this summer.”

The BC Drought Portal has been upgraded to make it more user-friendly across platforms.

The portal will be updated weekly, providing information about preparing and responding to drought, understanding provincial drought conditions and regulatory actions already underway.
