A pair of out-of-control wildfires in the VanJam Fire Zone are suspected to be human-caused according to provincial wildfire service.
One of them is four kilometres east of Vanderhoof and is 34 hectares in size.
The other is eleven kilometres west of Fraser Lake and is 25 hectares – an Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Bulkley-Nechako Regional District.
However, Fire Information Officer, Adam Nicholas told Vista Radio the definition of what is a human-caused blaze is a little broader than people realize.
“It’s not just arson and cigarette butts being thrown out the window, it is also if a tree fell on to a power line for instance, that would be a human-caused fire because it is human infrastructure that ignited it.”
In addition, a two-hectare blaze south of Eena Lake, northwest of Prince George that was reported yesterday (Sunday) is being held.
Several volunteer fire departments took action on the blaze prior to provincial crews arriving.
There are currently 119 wildfires in the province, a portion of which are holdovers from last year.
Eight blazes province-wide have started over the past 24 hours, while six others have been put out.
