27% of ICBC slogan requests for personalized plates rejected in 2023

YSO SLO, 2FAS4U, and OMG MOV are among the 2,600 personalized licence plate slogans ICBC rejected in 2023.

Last year, ICBC received 9,500 slogan requests from BC Drivers hoping to add a personalized licence plate to their vehicle.

73 per cent of those were approved.

“ICBC’s dedicated team meticulously reviews every application to ensure each slogan is appropriate to display on a BC licence plate,” said ICBC Manager of Insurance Operations Support Sandy-Anne Dodig.

“A personalized licence plate can be a creative way to express yourself, and we encourage drivers to review the criteria and guidelines on icbc.com prior to applying.”

Other rejected slogans included SO-HIGH, UNSAFE, DNT HIT, and NO LAW.

Slogans are rejected if they don’t meet guidelines and criteria, or if they’re deemed objectionable, for instance, if they’re discriminatory, sexually suggestive, abusive or derogatory in any language.

They can also be rejected if:

  • Slogan is already taken.
  • Combinations of characters are unacceptable for reasons such as conflicts with ICBC plate sequencing series.
  • Could cause identification problems.
  • Exceeds character limit.
  • Incorrect or missing payment.
  • Application incomplete.
  • Cancelled as per applicant request.
  • Vehicle type is not eligible for Personalized Number Plate.
