The Prince George SPCA is caring for a two-year-old pit bull terrier mix after it was found badly injured on the side of Highway 16 near Fort St. James.
The dog’s name is Honey, when she was found by a passerby she was unable to move.
“The Good Samaritan stopped because they thought a wild animal was injured. They couldn’t imagine it was a dog because on this stretch of the highway, there are no houses for more than 50 kilometers,” said Kristen Sumner, the manager of the BC SPCA’s North Cariboo Animal Centre.
When the SPCA received her, Honey had infected wounds on her face, neck, and torso, a dislocated shoulder, and her right leg required an amputation.
“Despite all of her injuries, Honey is one of the friendliest dogs we have ever had in our care,” Sumner said. “She loves people and adores other dogs.”
Right now, Honey is still in a fragile, and largely immobile state.
The SPCA is hoping Honey will be ready for adoption on Valentine’s Day, what would have been Betty White’s birthday.
