Northern Health’s 2024 New Year baby was nearly two weeks early

“It is not something we were shooting for.”

That is what to Jaden Janzen, the father of the first baby born in Northern Health in 2024, told Vista Radio with a laugh this morning (January 2).

Jaden said baby Holland and his wife Amy are both doing well after the delivery.

Holland was determined to be the New Year baby, Jaden said she arrived almost two weeks before her due date.

“Amy ended up [in labour] on the 31st. Things started to progress pretty quickly, once it got later in the night we were starting to think it would come before,” he remembered. “As it got closer to New Years, we saw we would be getting there, we got pretty excited.”

Holland was six pounds, eight ounces.

The Burns Lake family did not record the first birth in the province, that went to a child born at the stroke of midnight at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster.
