Workers will require a license to handle asbestos in BC next year.
The province will become the first in Canada to implement a licensing program related to the substance.
License applications first started being submitted to WorkSafeBC in September, an online registry of licensed employees is now available.
The required training was made available over the summer.

According to WorkSafeBC, asbestos is the leading cause of workplace deaths in the province, contributing to 61 of 181 workplace deaths in 2022.
