The BC government is offering a total of $240,000 in rebates to replace wood stoves with cleaner alternatives.
The rebates come through the Community Wood Smoke Reduction Program, which has provided more than $4 million to replace more than 10,300 old stoves since 2008.
“Burning wood is one of the largest air-pollution sources affecing BC communities, and switching to healthier, clean-heat sources can save people money by heating homes more effectively,” said Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy George Heyman.
“By increasing the amount available for rebates, we’re helping more people breathe healthier air in their homes and in their communities.”
This year, people in Frist Nations communities can receive as much as $3,000 back for upgrading to a heat pump, while rebates for heat pumps in other communities have doubled since last year, up to $2,000.
Amounts for upgrading to a CSA or EPA emissions-certified wood or pellet stove has also increased.
This is in addition to other rebates offered through CleanBC, or federal rebates.
The District of Vanderhoof is one of several communities has sufficient funds from previous years to continue to offer rebates.
