Osisko Development says a fan that led to noise complaints from some local residents in Wells was turned off back on October 17th.
Jill Wilson, a Spokesperson for Osisko Development’s Cariboo Gold Project, says “being a good neighbour is our first priority, and in this case, we responded promptly when concerns were raised by local residents.”
Wilson says it was a temporary exhaust fan purchased for pre-construction facilities that was louder than the equipment that they intend to use when they start pre-construction and have shovels in the ground.
“While the fan was operating within the limit put in place by their Environmental Assessment Conditions, we regret and apologize for the disruption that it caused.”
Wilson says local residents will be notified directly in advance of having any important activities for pre-construction, which they expect will be in mid-November.
“Osisko Development has been monitoring noise and testing as they start to prepare for upcoming construction.
“This includes the retention of expert external consultants. We are working towards completing a Community Effects Management Plan, which will informed by community feedback and include mitigation measures to minimize noise, improve visual quality and enhance emergency preparation.”
Wilson says they have been in contact with Mayor Ed Coleman to brief him on these efforts, and will continue to provide more information as it is available.
