Tentative deal confirmed for public school teachers in BC

The BC Public School Employers’ Association has reached a tentative agreement with members of the BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF).

Today’s (Monday) announcement states that it falls under the Province’s Shared Recovery Mandate.

Public School Employers Executive Director of Labour Relations, Leanne Bowes told Vista Radio the new deal likely means a wage increase for teachers.

“You may have seen from other agreements that have already been announced in the public sector that it amounts to a minimum of 11.25% salary increase for members.”

The BCTF represents nearly 49,000 teachers who deliver education to students in the province’s 60 school districts.

According to a release, details of the agreement will be available in the coming weeks after the ratification process for both union members and the school district employers is complete.

“On Wednesday, our board of directors will be voting and then we will take it out to our membership. For us, that means a vote of 60 trustee representatives – that is one representative for each of our 60 school districts across the province.”

“We believe that we should have both parties concluded (ratified) by the end of November,” added Bowes.
