“This is an important step,”: PG-Valemount MLA on extension to cap food delivery fees

Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond is relieved the 15% cap on food delivery fees will be around another year in our province.

The temporary legislation was set to expire on December 31st but is being extended until the same date next year (2022).

The interim leader of the BC Liberals told Vista Radio her party did everything it could to make sure this stuck around a bit longer.

“In fact, we had a member bring a private member’s bill to the legislature to make sure this was a priority for the government. We were relieved that they made the initial decision. We think it took longer than it should have but nevertheless, it got done.”

Bond added this is an important step to help an industry that has been decimated by the pandemic.

“It may seem small to some but it is an important way to relieve some of the pressure that businesses are feeling. We are very concerned about small businesses, restaurants, and others in northern British Columbia who have faced an additional set of restrictions over the last number of months.”

“We know that restaurants continue to face enormous pressure as a result of the pandemic, we are seeing with the latest variant this is not over yet and we think this is an important step to see this extension.”

An additional cap of 5% will also be extended for other related costs associated with the use of third-party services like Skip the Dishes, such as online ordering and processing fees.
