Vanderhoof to celebrate 90th birthday

A year of celebrations begins tomorrow for the District of Vanderhoof.

The community is turning 90, Deputy Director of Community Development Hilary Irving says it all kicks off at 12:30pm.

“This Friday we are gathering at the arena, all the school kids will go on the ice and sing happy birthday, we are going to videotape it followed by cupcakes.”

A free public skate is happening Friday from 2-5pm.

On Saturday beginning at noon, the Nechako Nordics Ski Club is hosting a cross country ski tournament at Riverside Park until 2pm. The day will feature a bonfire with chilli dogs, bannock and hot chocolate being served. Horse drawn sleigh rides and a historical photo series of Vandehoof will also take place. Live music begins at 3pm, speeches at 530pm, fireworks at 6pm.

Irving adds other birthday celebrations will be planned throughout the year including the Fall Fair and a tie in to Canada’s 150th birthday.
