Vanderhoof council is wanting to attract more residents to live, work, and thrive in the district.
Mayor Gerry Thiessen has announced a four-person committee to research possible ideas.
He says in the past couple years, council has been able to build a $500,000 financial reserve for this strategy.
“We’re very fortunate because of our strong industrial base, recreation trails, our swimming pool certainly will be into that, but also a lot of our environmental stewardship. We have great education, and we also have probably second-to-none medical services here.”
According to the 2011 census, Vanderhoof showed nearly 100 people working in the district, but living in Prince George.
A statistic Thiessen would love to change.
“We started about two years ago talking about, ‘how do we attract people into our community?’ So we had no debt at all for the last two years and we’re trying to turn that around by some of these assets we have.”
The four-person group will be co-chaired by Councillors Darren Carpenter and Ken Young.
