Night in Lights hopes to bring Rwandan students to BC

A local family is raising funds to help bring an African music school to Vanderhoof.

A Night in Lights invites everyone of all musical levels to come, by donation, to play whatever they like for a good cause.

Anika Wallace is a member of the family, and says the money is going to help pay for the school’s flights out of Rwanda.

“We are wanting them to come to Nelson, the music school I currently go to. We’re looking to do a music collaboration and have them see what our school is like because they don’t necessarily have the same facilities and privileges that we do.”

She adds this all started with her teacher making a GoFundMe page.

“We haven’t fundraised a ton of money yet, so I just thought I would just try and put in my two cents there and get things going to start off the year.”

The open mic event is slated for this Friday, 7PM at the Wallace residence.
