BC Liberals are both optimistic and worried about being part of the opposition as a shift in power takes place in the coming weeks.
After a non-confidence vote that defeated Christy Clark on Thursday, Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon tasked NDP Leader John Horgan to form government.
Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris believes his party has put the province in a steady position for the time being.
“We’re leaving government in a very good state. The economic growth in BC has been unprecedented; the budget surplus is the result of that. As my colleague Mike De Jong says, we’re leaving them with the keys to a Ferrari with a full tank of gas.”
The Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General says it’ll be tough to move legislations once a speaker is named and the headcount becomes 43-43.
Regardless of the situation, he knows the next chapter of his political career will be met with frustrations.
“It’ll challenge me, to some degree, to make sure that I hold these people to account; to make sure they don’t forget about rural BC and our free enterprise system we have. So, I’ll embrace it, and I’ll move forward with it. I can work with just about anything.”
Morris has served with the BC Liberals in Victoria for only one term.
