Star Wars cosplay team pays visit to kids in UHNBC

In a hospital’s pediatric wing not so far, far away, half a dozen Star Wars cosplayers arrived to put smiles on some kids’ faces.

They were members of the 501st Legion who are in town for Fancon this weekend, prior to the convention’s opening they said hi to some young fans in UHNBC.

Karen Corfe is a Legion member from Alberta who traveled to Prince George for Fancon.

“It is heartwarming and inspiring, it makes me want to do this all the time,” she told My PG Now. “Making somebody happen by doing so little, it gives you such a feeling of gratitude.”

Nick was one of the kids the Legion members visited, he had been working on a collection of Star Wars Lego sets in the days prior – a land speeder and the Millennium Falcon – and was happy to see the characters up close and personal.

“I didn’t Star Wars anything until two years ago,” Corfe said. “My friend said ‘you would make a really good Jawa.’ I went ‘what is a Jawa?”

The 501st Legion has members across the globe with movie-quality star wars costumes and outfits, and welcome members of all ages.

You are not required to be a “Star Wars nut,” as Corfe put it, either. She said of all the movies and TV shows out there, she has only seen about 6 hours of movie.

The 501st Legion will have a booth at Fancon this weekend, Star Wars fans can get photos with some of their favourite characters.
