Province asks Ottawa to streamline trucking regulations following overpass incident

British Columbia’s Transport Minister is asking for federal intervention to close a loophole in trucking safety regulations.

The province has cancelled the license of a large trucking company after one of its vehicles struck a highway overpass……one of several incidents in recent months.

But Rob Fleming says the company has trucks registered in Alberta as well….and they can still operate in B-C.

Fleming notes no single authority is responsible for oversight of a carrier’s entire operations if they have certificates in more than one jurisdiction.

He wants Canada’s transport ministers to take up the issue at their next meeting.
