The balmy weather we have enjoyed to kick off the winter in Prince George is expected to hang around for the long haul according to Environment Canada.
This comes after November saw an average temperature of 0.6 degrees – that ranks higher than the normal mark of -2.6.
Meteorologist, Lisa Erven told Vista Radio that from now until February the El Nino pattern gracing our city will be prominent.
“And that is thanks in large part to the moderate to strong El Nino that is expected to persist through this winter and into the early spring. With that said, what we need to do is keep an eye on the weather from week to week.”
“Just because the seasonal forecast is calling for above-normal temperatures that does not necessarily mean that we won’t see all the elements that Prince George normally receives. We are still likely to see the odd Arctic outbreak in addition to atmospheric river events such as the one we are going through today (Monday) as well as everything in between.”
The northern capital saw 85-90% of its normal precipitation during November.
In the Cariboo, Quesnel posted similar numbers to PG while Williams Lake saw the fifth-warmest November on record with only 40% of the normal participation falling.
