Northern Health Connections taking quick stoppage

The Northern Health Connections system is stopping temporarily.

The service takes people from all over the Province to their medical appointments, and will stop service completely by August 14th.

Coordinator Maureen Haley says ridership is lower at this time of year because families will travel to appointments together.

“They tend to make an event out of going to some of their health care appointments that are in other communities so they generally wouldn’t use the connections program,” she says.

During those two weeks, the bus fleet will get a tune-up and drivers will get a vacation.

“(Driver can) do some additional training as well as get some well-deserved time off. They are the heart of the service,” Haley says.

If you rely on the service, Haley suggests scheduling appointments around the break. The Northern Health call centre will still be open, and service will be back to normal on August 28th.
