The District of Vanderhoof is under an air quality advisory as per Northern Health and BC’s Ministry of Environment.
According to both authorities, the air is experiencing a higher concentration of fine particulate matter than usual, listed at 29 micrometres.
In a statement, Northern Health says the current arctic front is not allowing the bad air to retreat and recent high traffic volumes in certain areas are also playing a factor.
Residents with certain chronic medical conditions are being asked to stay in an air-conditioned place and to avoid outdoor strenuous activity.
You are also to refrain from open-wood burning.
This is a main concern for small children, infants, and seniors who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease.
