The Prince George Airport (YXS) saw 499,125 enplaning and deplaning passengers in 2017, up eight percent compared to the year prior.
That number is a record high for the airport as numbers have been steadily rising since 2010, with the lone exception coming in 2016.
“The Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) attributes the growth to a continued stable, diversified economy as well as the wildfire activity experienced across the province last summer,” says PGAA President and CEO John Gibson, in a statement.
“Although the summer wildfires forced significant traffic off the road and into the air, we saw an increase in majority of the months compared to 2016.”
August saw an increase of 21%, July was next at 18%, followed by April and October at 9%.
Spokesperson Lindsay Cotter says she expects 2018 to add more non-stop routes.
We’ll continue to work with our airline partners and see if we can get some new services, WestJet Link announced that they will be travelling non-stop to Calgary come March,” she explains.
In 2017, non-stop service was added to both Edmonton and Dawson Creek.
