The District Of Vanderhoof Has Seen Changes In 2017

The year is coming to a close and the mayor of Vanderhoof is reflecting on what has been accomplished.

Gerry Thiessen complimented on how the district was able to bring in more infrastructure projects, like the new swimming pool and replacing the 70-year-old water system.

Thiessen says looking into the new year, there’s still a lot they can get done.

“I think that we as a community are going to be looking at how we can strengthen our business community in Vanderhoof”

He says the traditional way of attracting businesses has changed and the district is working with different groups to make sure they bring in companies residents will like.

The environment will be something else the District of Vanderhoof will be looking at.

“We’re continuing to work with the government to get a water use plan. The river in Vanderhoof is the only hydro generating river in British Columbia that doesn’t have a water use plan.”

The Nechako River has faced problems in the past with too much water being released into it, causing flooding and damaging surrounding areas.

Thiessen says Vanderhoof is a small community that doesn’t have all the things bigger towns offer, but they feel very good about the future development of the district.
