Prince George man charged with Sexual Assault, Kidnapping

Mounties have arrested a Prince George man in connection to a kidnap and sexual assault case last month.

26-year-old Sukhjinder Singh is being charged for an early morning assault in the Foothills area around 2AM on September 3rd.

RCMP Inspector Shaun Wright says these cases don’t happen very often, especially if the parties involved don’t know each other.

“People should feel safe as these are relatively rare incidents, but at the same time, you have to take normal precautions, especially in the early morning hours and, unfortunately, particularly if you’re female and being alone in the night.”

Wright goes on to explain the uniqueness of this case.

“Charges such as forceful confinement and kidnapping are not something we deal with every day, but they do happen on an infrequent basis. Incidents that involve a suspect who was a stranger to the victim are quite rare.”

Police say a woman was offered a ride home by the suspect after getting a flat tire at 5th Avenue and Tabor Boulevard, and taken to a Heritage parking lot where he assaulted her.

If convicted in court, Singh could face up to life in prison.

Mounties are also investigating to see if there’s a link to similar incidents in the city.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Prince George RCMP at (250) 561-3300, or Crime-Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
