All-party finance committee consults in Northern BC

Members of the BC government were in Northern BC on Tuesday discussing the upcoming Budget 2018.

Prepared by Finance Minister Carole James and a committee of MLAs in all three political parties, the goal of the meeting is to hear the public’s needs for the year ahead.

NDP MLA for Maple Ridge-Mission, and Select Standing Committee Chair, Bob D’Eith says they’ve heard suggestions from just about everyone.

“We’ve had a lot of student groups come in concerned about tuition fees and student loans, as well as everything from healthcare issues, seniors issues, and housing, of course, is a big issue, and we’re going to make sure people can afford to live in this province.”

The committee began its tour on September 25th in Vancouver, and ending on Friday in Nanaimo, making stops in all regions of BC along the way.

D’Eith says it’s pivotal they reach out and hear all concerns ahead of the February budget reading.

“That’s why we’re on the road. We want to make sure that we’re listening to every region of British Columbia and not just certain regions. That’s why it’s very important, so I’m really actually looking forward to all consultations.”

The public can still submit their priorities, comments, and suggestions any time before 5PM on Monday.
