A second BC Liberal leadership candidate has made his way to Northern BC.
More than a week after Mike de Jong’s arrival, Andrew Wilkinson decided to visit the region, which he says is a critical area of BC in terms of economy.
Having worked across the North while growing up, the former Minister of Advanced Education believes there are key areas the Liberals need to address.
“One of the priorities is getting an update on the fiber supply inventory so that we know the effects of the fires. That way, we can have an understanding of how we’re going to continue to having industry operate here so people can keep their jobs move ahead with their lives.”

The MLA for Vancouver-Quilchena is one of eight people campaigning for his party’s top job, and he intends to visit other rural communities in the days ahead.
Wilkinson also believes hundreds of Northern-based jobs are currently in jeopardy.
“There’s also the whole phenomenon with Site C and how the NDP are botching that up. It should be a major opportunity for people to work from all over British Columbia because there are lots of job opportunities there, and we don’t want to see the NDP throw it away.”

He says his knowledge and experience are unique to his candidacy, and if elected, he claims he can help bring valid arguments for them in Victoria.
The election of a new leader is slated for February.
