District of Vanderhoof makes progress on key items

A Committee of the Whole meeting in the District of Vanderhoof uncovered two positive developments.

Mayor Gerry Thiessen says crews have been working feverishly on the community’s aquatic centre. “Certainly, a lot of infrastructure has gone in, a lot of cement work in the pools and that’s going to take more form, get the roof on before the snow comes and will be laughing. I can see ourselves swimming there a year from now I feel that will be good.”

The 16,000 square foot facility will feature a 6 lane Lap Pool with a large Leisure pool and Hot Tub.

Thiessen is also very pleased with Vanderhoof’s new transportation system.

Ridership has grown dramatically in recent weeks. “We are seeing new people that are finding it a great asset. Seniors and people that live on the edge of town come into town and do their shopping knowing full well that they can get back on.”

Lastly, the District and the Saik’uz First Nation have developed a protocol agreement that will be signed on October 30.

The agreement focuses on services and relations.
