Thanks to a loan approval, Vanderhoof council has been able to purchase some new lean, mean, cleaning machines.
This includes a new street sweeper, grater, and dump truck.
Mayor Gerry Thiessen says the older models were not able to stay up to speed or get the job done properly.
“It actually picks up dust as opposed to the last street sweeper, which had appeared to be spreading the dust around. Also, our grater died this year and it was going to cost a lot to fix it up.”
District Chief Financial Officer Joe Ukryn says the cash flow has been very strong over the past two years, making it a smooth process in requesting these upgrades.
Thiessen adds more efficient construction is expected to be completed in the months ahead.
“We have two of the biggest projects going on right now in the new swimming pool and a water tower; even metal starts to thin out. We’ll get a new water tower as well as another water line, which will connect the other water tower that we have in town.”
The old water tower has been connected to the Kenney Dam south of Vanderhoof since the 1940s.
