One person injured in highway crash near Burns Lake

One person was sent to hospital on Monday following a crash on Highway 16 east of Burns Lake that halted traffic.

Burns Lake RCMP said it was notified at about 9:27 that morning, responding to the collision between a tractor trailer and a pickup truck.

Police added an investigation found the tractor trailer traveling east veered left into the west bound lane, striking a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction before stopping in the ditch.

Mounties said the pickup driver received non-life-threatening injuries and was extracted by the Burns Lake Fire Department before being sent to hospital for treatment.

The tractor trailer driver was not injured according to officers.

Police said the highway was closed for about 45 minutes, reopening after the pickup truck was removed from the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
