188 BC Wildfire Service personnel are actioning the Pear Lake wildfire in the South Cariboo area which now stands at 66,000 hectares in size and categorized as a fire of note.

Fire Information Officer Paula Walbauer said the growth they are seeing is in the North, Northeast, corner of the complex.

“We currently have 17 helicopters assigned to our complex, 76 pieces of heavy equipment and 141 structure protection personnel on this incident. “Along the Southeast flank around the village of Clinton we are seeing structure protection and firefighting crews focusing on structure protection and crews are also working off that Highway 97 section which is also in that Southeast corner of town.”

Walbauer said they’ll be seeing more machine guard established and crews mopping up and extinguishing any spot fires so crews and heavy equipment are establishing that machine between the fires edge and the Village of Clinton.”

BC Wildfire Service said the fire did progress North on the West side of Highway 97 and around the White Lake area with rank 4 fire behaviour, meaning a highly vigorous surface fire with with crown fire and spotting ahead of the fires head.

The 59 Creek wildfire and the Pear Lake wildfire have combined.
