The B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) have put Prince George and Vanderhoof as locations for measles exposure.
P.G.’s University Hospital of Northern British Columbia’s emergency department is said to have been exposed to measles between 9:20 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. on June 27th, with Vanderhoof’s exposure at the St. John Hospital on June 24th, between 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The BCCDC said the disease is very contagious, and can be spread when the infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes, spreading through the air.
Anyone who thinks they may have been exposed should watch for symptoms, and to contact your health provider in advance to have an examination.
The best way to prevent yourself from getting the disease is by being immunized.
More information about measles, and what to do in case of an exposure, can be found on the B.C. Centre for Disease Control website here.
