The District of Vanderhoof is making final preparations for its Centennial Celebration this summer.
It’s set for July 4th and 5th with musical acts like Trooper, Tom Cochrane and the Headpins performing at Riverside Park.
Organizer, Tom Bulmer told Vista Radio they are expecting a good crowd for the 100-year celebration.
“We think we’ve got everything in place, we are expecting a huge crowd for the weekend. We have to make sure that our infrastructure is in place, we have a lot of good people working on that and we will be ready to go.”

One of Vanderhoof’s district councillors Ernest Martens hosted Rockfest in the community several years ago and was one of the driving forces in securing the big-name musical acts for the special occasion.
“Ernest has maintained his contacts in the music industry as a whole and got ahold of some of his cohorts and came up with this great package.”
Bulmer believes there should be fun for everyone.
“On the 3rd of July there is going to be a parade and a home coming of sorts for people who took part in that a few years ago. Then we have the big days of the fourth and the fifth and we believe that by celebrating what built Vanderhoof from back then to what it is today and what we can see coming.”
“Forestry has always been huge in this area and of course a big part of the history of the area is known as the Kenney Dam, which was built in the 1950’s.”
Founded in 1926, Vanderhoof has grown from a small railway settlement into the vibrant heart of BC’s geographical centre.
Historical exhibits, Cowboy poetry along food and dancing is also scheduled.
