BC Highway Patrol looking for witnesses to fatal crash north of Prince George

The BC Highway Patrol is seeking witnesses and dash camera footage after a two-vehicle collision claimed a life north of Prince George.

Mounties were called to the Hart Highway near Salmon Valley at around 12:42 p.m. yesterday (Monday), where a northbound Peterbilt logging truck towing an empty trailer had collided with a southbound blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

The 29-year-old Alberta man driving the logging truck appeared to have minor injuries, but the 67-year-old Mackenzie man, who was alone in the pickup, did not survive.

“Any witnesses who saw this collision, or who have dash camera of the events leading up to the crash, will be crucial to this investigation,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.

“At this early stage, nothing has been ruled out in terms of what caused the collision.”

Road conditions were wet and slushy at the time of the crash, following a wet snowfall that blanketed the City the night before.

“We have seen two fatal collisions in less than a day on Highway 97. We’re urging motorists in and around Prince George to slowdown to well below the speed limit,” McLaughlin said.

Another collision reported south of Prince George was confirmed fatal by the RCMP yesterday.

Anyone who saw the events leading up to the fatal collision north of Prince George is asked to call BC Highway Patrol – Prince George at 250-649-4004 and quote file (3100) 2026-190.
