No shortage of community support during wildfires

While there are no evacuation orders in the North Cariboo, there are wildfires still burning out of control in the area.

Speaking from the fire centre at the Quesnel Airport, Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes says they’re focused on one fire in particular.

“They’re putting a strong focus on the Dragon Mountain fire; they’re bringing in lots of heavy-duty equipment. If you do have heavy-duty equipment, we do require the call for logistics is 778-799-2040.”

Oakes adds local residents have been more than willing to help out in any way they can.

Cariboo Regional District Director Al Richmond says however, they’re now sending evacuees further North.

“The concern is with the threat to the safety of the Cariboo as a whole, we want to be sure that we don’t load up any facilities. We’ve asked our evacuees in Williams Lake and in 100 Mile House to go through to Prince George.”

Richmond believe Prince George has the capacity for up to 20,000 people.

The College of New Caledonia (CNC) is hosting evacuees; for more information, you can click here.
