The province has embraced the new colourful BC Parks license plates from ICBC.
Since circulation began at the end of January, 37,000 plates have been sold, with proceeds going towards the BC Park Enhancement Fund.
Spokesperson Lindsay Olsen says one design in particular has captured the public’s eye.
“The most popular of the three license plate designs in the Kermode Bear, which only lives in British Columbia, with over 14,000 plates old.”
Olsen says that makes up 40% of the sales ahead of the Purcell Mountain background at 32%, and Porteau Cove overlooking Howe Sound at 28%.
She adds the total proceeds accumulate to more than $500,000 for new programs and improvements through the enhancement fund.
“Keep in mind that if all of these customers renew their park plates next year, an additional $1.5 million will go to BC Parks. We’re just thrilled with the response we’ve received for my customers; it’s great to see so much support.”
According to ICBC, the number goes above the projected sales by 2022.
Plates are $50 each, and $40 for each year of renewal.
