The largest community fundraiser Vanderhoof will ever witness takes place this Friday night.
The money is going towards Ray and Allison Bruvold, who lost their entire home to a fire on June 7th.
Organizer Dennis Poirier describes the night of the incident.
“I’m their neighbour next door to the West, and we came upon some pretty good flames. They tried to put it out, but it got too big too fast. Fire Department couldn’t come out because they’re out of the Fire Protection Zone and it all went up in flames and smoke.”
He says the Bruvolds have called Vanderhoof home for the last 35 years.
Co-organizer and neighbour Alex Kulchar adds they’ve been shining examples of what it means to give back to the community.
“Ray has been heavily involved with Air Cadets and the Legion, and really is just a good, solid neighbor. It’s just a terrible thing; he literally they came out of there with their boots and that’s about it.”
A Calgary woman has also set up a GoFundMe page in honour of the Bruvolds, with a goal of $5,000 to be collected.
Friday night will feature live and silent auctions, entertainment, and a dessert bar.
The event begins 7PM in the gymnasium of St. Joseph’s Parish.
