The frigid temperatures Prince George and Vanderhoof has been dealing with will last one more week according to Environment Canada.
Conditions have been 10 to 15 degrees below normal for this time of year.
Meteorologist, Derek Lee told Vista Radio relief is coming by the end of the weekend.
“Looking at Sunday, we are starting to climb in terms of temperatures to maybe a high of minus ten and then subsequently maybe into next week here, we are looking at temperatures warming up. It has been a lot of sunny days and clear nights.”
Lee also explained why this system has lasted so long.
“The high-pressure systems are the ones normally the fairweather makers, which really just tells us that it’s going to be mainly sunny and dry and, then that is the reasoning why we haven’t gotten snowfall or any precipitation for a certain length of time. The high ridge of pressure has been so strong that it has kept all the storms away.”
He added the cold spell hasn’t come close to matching or breaking any temperature records.
