District of Vanderhoof purchases shuttered gas station, car wash with plan to demolish it

The District of Vanderhoof plans to demolish the old KwikSave Gas Station.

Council entered into an agreement with the owner of the car wash located at 302 1st Street West to purchase the building at the assessment value according to BC Assessment, which is $293,000.

In 2013, excessive unpaid property taxes resulted in the transfer of the gas station to the district. However, the liability of the in-ground tanks, the degrading building and environmental hazards were now under the watchful eye of Mayor and Council.

As the entire facility is considered structurally and environmentally unsound, Council’s plan is to demolish the building, thus creating an opportunity for new development along the highway corridor.
