PG Cougars give up late goal in loss to Portland

A good road trip almost became a great road trip for the Prince George Cougars.

Ryan Miller scored the winner with just 3.3 seconds left in the 3rd period to give the Winterhawks a 3-2 victory before 3,785 fans in Portland.

The winning goal came on a 3 on 1 rush.

The Cougars finished 3-2 on the trip and now sit 4-2-1-0 on the season.

The game’s first star Marek Schlenker made 38 saves in his WHL debut as Prince George outshot Portland 40-33.

Cooper Michaluk took the loss in net and is now 0-2 since joining the team in a trade with Spokane last month.

Coming off the Friday 5-2 victory over Seattle, the Cougars appeared to run out of gas
in the third as they were outshot 12-4.

Viliam Kmec notched a goal and assisted on the other Prince George marker, which came on the power play by Hunter Laing.

The Winterhawks scored 18 seconds into the game by Hudson Darby and also got a tally from Josh Zakreski with just 54 seconds left in the 2nd period.

The same two teams meet again Tuesday and Wednesday at CN Centre in Prince George.
