YXS closely monitoring looming Air Canada work stoppage

The airline says it will begin cancelling flights tomorrow (Friday), if there’s no agreement with the Air Line Pilots Association.

The company’s pilots are fighting for big wage increases to bring them level with their American counterparts, some of whom are earning 40 per cent more.

But Air Canada calls the demands “unrealistic.”

The federal government says it wants the problem solved through negotiation, and its mediators are working with both sides.

Sunday is the first day that the pilots can issue a 72-hour strike notice….or the airline can issue a similar lockout notice.

If that happens, Air Canada says it will begin what it calls an “orderly” shutdown of its operations.

Gord Duke with the Prince George Airport Authority issued the following statement regarding the impending work stoppage:

At the Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA), our priority is to support a seamless travel experience for our passengers. In light of the potential strike by Air Canada pilots, we encourage all travelers to stay informed by contacting Air Canada directly for the most current updates and guidance on how this situation may impact your flight.

Please note that while the Prince George Airport Authority is committed to assisting where possible, we do not have direct control over airline operations or other tenants at the airport. We recommend that passengers familiarize themselves with their options in the event of flight disruptions, such as rebooking, cancellations, or refund policies.
