PG, Vanderhoof fastball teams to compete in men’s world championship next week

The Prince George River Kings will be among 50 teams vying for supremacy during the 2024 International Softball Congress World Men’s Fastpitch Championship.

It is taking place from August 10-17 at Softball City in Surrey and is the first time since 1997 British Columbia has hosted the event.

Regarded as one of the premier fastpitch teams in Canada, they have a star-studded lineup including 12 locals: Randy Potskin, Nicholas Potskin, Jarrett Potskin, Derlan Potskin, Evan Potskin, Tre Potskin, Chad Ghostkeeper, Tyson Ghostkeeper, Justin Fillion, Cole Laviolette, Jaeger Bush and Joel Walkey.

The River Kings placed 4th in the Open Division at the John Cho Cup, which was held in PG at Spruce City Stadium.

Furthermore, the Vanderhoof Rippers are also entered into the championship slotting into the fourth division.

The tournament will also feature some of the best fastpitch players in the world spanning 15-countries including Canada, USA, Mexico and Australia.

In addition, the world’s number one seed New York Gremlins whose lineup consists of Australian Jack Besgrove, regarded as the best men’s fastpitch pitcher on the globe.
