Quesnel RCMP and the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department were called to the scene of a single vehicle accident on Eberg Road in the Red Bluff Area just before 6 o’clock this (Wednesday) morning.
Fire Chief Ron Richert says “upon arrival we had a single vehicle down a fairly steep embankment and it was embedded in a group of trees.”
The male driver was freed immediately but a female passenger was stuck.
Richert says the vehicle was basically wrapped around the tree and the tree was actually in the passenger seat area.
“Extrication was very challenging and very technical. We had our rescue crew on scene and we used the cutters, spreaders, our ram. We had to stabilize the vehicle multiple times but, it took us a while to get the patient out but the patient was extracted safely.”
Richert says they used pretty much every tool they had and that they had to make multiple cuts just to get to the patient.
He says they were on scene for around two hours.
Richert says things could have turned out a lot worse.
RCMP Sergeant Clay Kronebusch confirms that the male drive suffered minor injuries and that the female passenger was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The SUV suffered extensive damage.
Kronebusch says the cause of the accident remains under investigation, but he says alcohol is not suspected to be involved.
