Students riding bicycles from Texas to Alaska will be making a stop in Prince George tomorrow. (Thursday)
The ride is part of the Texas 4000, a non-profit, student-led organization from the University of Texas.
“We’ve been going on for about 20 years, we were established in 2004,” said Community Engagement Chair Maleni Arredondo.
“We are a charity bike ride that rides from Austin, Texas, to Anchorage, Alaska every single summer. We do this to benefit cancer research and support services.”
There’s three routes students can take, two of which travel through Prince George.
The riders on the Sierra Route will be making their way to Prince George from Quesnel tomorrow, and will make a stop at the BC Cancer Centre for the North.
“We will be granting out some of our fundraising to them,” Arredondo said.
“We’re just very excited to get a tour of the space and get to interact with the personnel there.”
Riders on the Rockies Route are in Prince George today. (Wednesday)
Both routes will continue on Highway 16 through to Hazelton, where they will turn onto Highway 37 en route to Alaska.
