A recent ICBC survey says 9/10 drivers in northern BC have winter tires on their car this year.
ICBC is reminding drivers to plan for the conditions and drive according to the weather – warning speed-related crashes in the region increase by 188% in January compared to October (from 16 to 46).
38% of those surveyed across the province said they witnessed a winter crash last year, and 21% had a “near miss” while behind the wheel.
The three top natural concerns for drivers this time of year are icy roads (78%), freezing rain (58%), and decreased visibility (38%), while the top human factors were other drivers not driving to the conditions (73%), drivers who don’t know how to navigate the snow (71%), and “inconsiderate or aggressive drivers” (46%).
