Cougars’ top line too much for Wenatchee

The Prince George Cougars have yet to lose back-to-back games.

That record was put to the test for the ninth time last night against a formidable opponent, the US Division leading Wenatchee Wild.

The Cats came out flying, earning a 3-0 lead after the first period in front of the 2930 person crowd.

Two quick ones late in the second period for the Wild made it interesting for a brief moment, but under a minute after Wenatchee’s second goal, Hunter Laing scored his second, and the eventual game winner, to make it 4-2.

Luka Shcerbyna once again made it a one goal game early in the third, and once again the Cougars scored in under a minute to restore their lead.

Zac Funk ended his night with a hat trick goal into an empty net, his third hat trick of the month.

Riley Heidt had five assists, bringing him to 60 points in 30 games played this year.

Ty Young made 26 saves on 29 shots, including a penalty shot save. Prince George outshot Wenatchee 32-29.

The win helps cement the Cougars’ position on the top of the Western Conference, now 23-9-0-0, three points ahead of Wenatchee with two games in hand.

They finish off the pre-Christmas half of their schedule tonight in Vancouver against the 12-17-2-0 Giants.
