Prince George will be welcoming a new charity organization for girls with disabilities.
GIRLS CLUB was created to give neurodivergent girls ways to meet and form friendships with like-minded peers.
“It’s really difficult for kids with neurological and developmental conditions to sustain friendships and to meet other kids that are like them,” said GIRLS CLUB Founder Vicky Ryan.
“We provide opportunities that are fun for them to get together, that can look like, this summer it’ll be a picnic, sometimes it’s pool parties, or it’s arts and crafts or it’s movie nights, pizza making, it’s things like that, things that are fun for kids.”
While the chapter is based in Prince George, families from across the north are welcome to use their services.
A local mother, Kristen McBurnie will be running the Northern BC Chapter.
“Kristen was committed, and she had heard about us online,” Ryan said.
“She’s got the right temperament, the right philosophy, the right drive, the right passion to run a GIRLS CLUB chapter.”
There was previously a chapter in Prince George prior to the pandemic, but Ryan said the person running it was unable to come back to it.
The Northern BC Chapter will be holding a launch party on July 23rd in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park.
