Prince George enjoyed its second-warmest May on record according to Environment Canada.
The average temperature during the month was 13.5 degrees – well above the normal mark of 10.1.
Meteorologist Bobby Sekohn told Vista Radio while many communities in BC shattered old records, the northern capital came up a little bit shy.
“It is quite a bit above normal actually but it was not the hottest on record. The hottest on record was from 1998.”
Sekohn adds that May was equally as dry in PG with just 27 millimetres of precipitation falling, roughly half of the typical mark of 49.
As for what we can expect this summer, the weather office is projecting warmer-than-normal temperatures.
“I can say that on average we expect by the end of the summer above normal temperatures. But, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we will have a whole lot of heatwaves and it doesn’t necessarily mean that we won’t.”
“It’s really hard to really lean into anything on an event-to-event basis from that but in general, we can expect a warmer summer and so it is important to prepare for that ahead of time.”
Over the next week, daily highs will be kind of all over the place, ranging from 17 to 29 degrees.
