Vanderhoof Fire Rescue and the VanJam Zone will be carrying out their annual training for the Fire Department tonight (Monday).
The purpose of the burn is to provide cross-training between the BC Wildfire Service and Vanderhoof Fire Rescue, including recertification for the local fire department and hazard abatement on a grassy slope in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI).
During the exercise, a small (under 0.5 hectare) grass burn will be ignited and extinguished between the hours of 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm, southeast of the Burrard Avenue and Loop Road intersection. All areas will be fully extinguished prior to crews departing the scene.
Smoke and flames from this burn will be visible from Vanderhoof.
