Legislation establishing a dental benefit for children between the ages of two and 11 has been given royal assent.
Beginning December 1st, parents earning less than 90 thousand dollars a year will be able to apply for up to 650 dollars per child, per year, to go towards dental costs.
An estimated one million children are expected to benefit.
It’s the first phase of a national dental care insurance program that will apply to all Canadians of low- and middle-income by the end of 2025.
It’s part of the deal by the minority Liberal government to win NDP support until that year.
